- Purification of the Heart: A Soulful Retreat of Reflection, Connection, and Nature
A Journey of Healing and Empowerment. < Back Purification of the Heart: A Soulful Retreat of Reflection, Connection, and Nature Asli Abdullahi 23 Jan 2025 A Journey of Healing and Empowerment. "A Journey of Healing and Empowerment Through Reflection, Sisterhood, and the Healing Power of Nature" The Herstory Camp, "Purification of the Heart," provided a transformative experience for all participants. Through moments of deep self-reflection, guided activities, and meaningful connections with like-minded women, this soulful retreat at Anglesea discovery camp offered a sacred space for healing and empowerment. Surrounded by the beauty of nature the young women were able to reconnect with their inner selves, release emotional burdens, and rediscover their strength. The camp’s holistic approach nurtured both the spirit and the body, fostering a renewed sense of purpose, unity, and personal growth. Before the HERstory Camp, young women from African backgrounds faced the challenge of juggling school, home responsibilities, and cultural expectations, often leading to stress and isolation. Many lacked a space to connect with peers who understood their experiences and struggled to find resources that supported their identity and personal growth in a culturally relevant way. HERstory Camp aimed to provide these young women with a safe and supportive environment where they could unwind, share their stories, and build confidence. The camp focused on leadership, teamwork, personal empowerment, helping participants feel a sense of belonging while developing the skills they needed to tackle life’s challenges. The goal was to inspire growth, strengthen community bonds, and help each young woman recognise her own potential. The camp created a space where the young women could step away from their everyday pressures and focus on personal growth. Additionally, a safe and culturally affirming environment where participants could connect with one another, share their experiences and engage in activities that promoted self-discovery and leadership. Through team-building exercises and storytelling, the young women were able to gain new perspectives, build lasting friendships and feel empowered to navigate their academic and personal lives with more confidence. The program’s structured activities focused on strengthening life skills such as communication, resilience and problem-solving, which are essential for overcoming the unique challenges faced by these young women. By addressing both the emotional and practical aspects of their development, HERstory Camp equipped participants with tools to better manage their responsibilities at home and school, while encouraging them to embrace their cultural and religious identity. The support and community created by the camp gave these young women the sense of belonging and empowerment they needed to thrive, helping them to build a brighter, more confident future. Sumaya from AMSSA sisters connect our partner organisation for this camp shared that she was grateful that The Huddle gave her the opportunity to co-facilitate a camp and build her organisations capacity. She mentioned that she learned a lot of new skills from this experience that will better help her plan her own programs in the future as a new and emerging local organisation. ‘’The Anglesea Discovery Camp was a beautiful reminder of god’s creation and the blessings we often overlook. Meeting new friends, engaging in fun activities, and reflecting on our faith made it an unforgettable experience. I am grateful for such wholesome moments❤️ ‘’ - Katra “I had an incredible experience at the camp and truly enjoyed my stay. It was a perfect balance of fun, personal growth, and meaningful connections.” - Faduma We are planning for our next Herstory camp which will include partnering up with a local run club called Her Run. - The Huddle thanks Local Legends
The Huddle is beginning a new series to shout out the Local Legends in our community < Back The Huddle thanks Local Legends Riley Goodwin 19 Oct 2021 The Huddle is beginning a new series to shout out the Local Legends in our community Pictured: Yasseen Musa and Khalil Ali Khalil The Huddle is beginning a new series to shout out the Local Legends in our community. This could be individuals and or groups in the community that are doing amazing work, especially during the pandemic. This week’s Local Legends are the wonderful people at the Eritrean Jeberti Community in Australia Inc (EJCA). The Eritrean Jeberti Community in Australia Inc was established in 2016 by experienced members of the community, to help newly arrived refugees and migrants from Eritrean background and other African countries to smoothly integrate with the wider Australian Community. The group helps new arrivals with the necessary settlement needs, such as housing, banking, Medicare, Centrelink, enrolling in English courses and more. To fill their vision and mission, the EJCA communicate and build a good relationship with government departments and organisations such as Victoria Police, sporting clubs, Co-Health, Salvation Army and The Huddle. When the COVID-19 pandemic began, the EJCA organisation worked hard to spread awareness among its community members. When the virus broke out in the North Melbourne and Flemington housing towers, they were one of the first to arrive to assist the residents. The group has held several information sessions in English and Tigrinya and post information in WhatsApp groups and their Facebook pages to spread the awareness and provide updates on COVID-19, and to help the community get vaccinated against it to protect themselves and their families. During lockdowns, the EJCA distributed four rounds of culturally appropriate food, reaching more than 300 households. Each bag included an information sheet about the COVID-19 vaccinations in three different languages - English, Tigrigna, and Arabic. Thanks to Local Legends such as the EJCA, the community they work with have been able to receive the tools and resources required to navigate through the pandemic and beyond. Previous Next

- Official Launch for GOAL! Motorsport Australia
A STEM education initiative designed to bring the excitement of Motorsport into classrooms across the country. < Back Official Launch for GOAL! Motorsport Australia David Middlemast 23 Mar 2025 A STEM education initiative designed to bring the excitement of Motorsport into classrooms across the country. We are proud to officially launch Motorsport Australia GOAL!, a STEM education initiative designed to bring the excitement of motorsport into classrooms across the country. Developed in partnership with Motorsport Australia and the Mathematical Association of Victoria, GOAL! offers six interactive lesson plans that use motorsport to teach core STEM principles to students in Years 5-8. Since becoming available to schools in mid-2024, the program has already been adopted by 106 schools, with 165 teachers downloading the resources and engaging over 4,600 students nationwide. Motorsport Australia CEO Sunil Vohra said the launch of GOAL! represents a significant step in making motorsport more accessible to young Australians. “Motorsport Australia GOAL! is about more than just motorsport – it’s about inspiring the next generation of engineers, team strategists, and problem solvers,” Vohra said. “By bringing motorsport into the classroom, we’re providing students with hands-on learning experiences that make STEM education more engaging and relevant. “Motorsport offers meaningful career options, and Motorsport Australia GOAL! is an early step for STEM pathways into building the skills needed for roles in engineering, data analysis, aerodynamics, and race strategy.” The program features lessons such as ‘Chance of Victory’, where students learn about probability and team management by allocating a budget across a racing team, and ‘Protecting Eggbert’, which teaches safety principles as students design and test helmets after learning from real racing drivers like Bayley Hall, Porsche Carrera Cup driver. “The early response has been fantastic, with more than 4,600 students already engaging with Motorsport Australia GOAL! in classrooms across the country. Now that we’ve officially launched, we’re excited to reach even more schools and continue to show students that motorsport isn’t just about racing – it’s about science, strategy, and teamwork,” said Charlie Barlow, Development Manager, Motorsport Australia. “Motorsport Australia GOAL! aligns to the Australian and Victorian Curriculum, and the NSW Syllabus, ensuring teachers have an accessible and engaging resource that supports student learning and introduces them to the world of motorsport in a way they may not have experienced before. “We’re excited to see this program continue to grow and inspire the next generation of students across the country.” Importantly, the initiative is not designed to compete with other motorsport STEM programs, but rather to introduce students to motorsport-inspired learning before they potentially progress to initiatives like FIA Girls on Track. “At The Huddle, we’re passionate about using sport to create meaningful educational opportunities for young Australians. Our partnership with Motorsport Australia on GOAL! is a perfect example of how sport can be a powerful tool for learning, particularly in STEM,” said Cameron McLeod, CEO, The Huddle. “Motorsport Australia GOAL! has been designed to give students a fresh and engaging way to learn STEM through the world of motorsport. “Hands-on, real-world application helps students retain knowledge, and this program provides an exciting way to introduce key concepts like engineering, probability, and design in a way that resonates with young learners.” “GOAL! is a fantastic way to introduce students to the many different career paths in motorsport beyond just driving,” said Aiva Anagnostiadis , Professional Racing Driver, who attended the event as a guest speaker. “STEM plays such a huge role in racing, from aerodynamics to race strategy, and this program helps students see how those skills apply in the real world. “For those who want to take their learning even further, GOAL! can also be a stepping stone to programs like F1 in Schools, where students can put their engineering and problem-solving skills to the test in a competitive environment.” Also speaking at the launch event, 2024 Bathurst 1000 Winner Todd Hazelwood highlighted the program’s role in broadening participation in motorsport, particularly for young women. “Motorsport is so much more than just driving—it’s about science, technology, engineering, and teamwork. Programs like GOAL! help students see that they can have a future in motorsport, whether as a driver, engineer, or strategist,” Hazelwood said. With the official launch now underway, Motorsport Australia aims to expand the program to 500 schools across the country, ensuring even more students get the opportunity to engage with motorsport in a meaningful way.
