- About Us | The Huddle
Since 2010, The Huddle has engaged over 120,000 young people from over 160 different cultures. About Enhance education and career outcomes for young people through the power of sport. Born out of the role and value of sport and the influence the North Melbourne Football Club plays in connecting people across different ages, genders, and cultures; The Huddle was established in 2010 as the community arm of the Club in partnership with the Scanlon Foundation and the Australian Multicultural Foundation. It was established to engage, support, and empower young people to build on their strengths, and contribute to more socially inclusive communities. The Huddle works with sports to help them be a leader in the community by inspiring young people to learn, grow and belong. Board Michael Scalzo Chairman Michael is the Managing Director of Scalzo Food Industries. This is a private, family-owned group with assets located in Australia and New Zealand across farming, primary production, value added manufacturing and FMCG. Michael also sits on the family foundation, The Grace and Emilio Foundation, that is committed to ensuring that children and young people at risk of not meeting their full potential are given the support they need to thrive. Kate Trainor Director Kate is Chief Growth Officer of sports data and technology company Champion Data. She brings extensive experience across sports strategy, media and commercial direction, leading business development and cross-functional teams in complex stakeholder environments. Kate has worked extensively with the AFL, but most recently has driven Champion Data’s international expansion across the US, UK and Europe. Kate now serves on the NMFC Integrity Committee and as a Director of The Huddle, continuing the Trainor family’s longstanding association with the Club. Jennifer Watt Director Jennifer is the CEO of the North Melbourne Football Club and is currently the only female CEO of an AFL Club. Jennifer has over 25 years’ experience in the sports industry in a variety of roles, covering a range of management, commercial, marketing and communications disciplines, including 14 years at Melbourne Football Club and then as General Manager, Commercial Operations and Partnerships at the Melbourne Cricket Club (MCC), managing relationships with Cricket Australia, the AFL and Concert promoters, along with overseeing the commercial, hospitality, marketing, communications and special event portfolios for the MCG. Jennifer has a Bachelor of Commerce and was awarded the AFL’s prestigious Graeme Samuel Scholarship in 2016 for her achievements as a Club executive. It challenged them to think critically and collaborate on STEM tasks, from building pendulums to kick a ball through for a goal to devising a solution for rolling a marble through from the 50-meter line and navigating Sphero courses using technology. This program includes practical clinics, opportunities for North Melbourne Football Club player appearances, and free community membership and ticketing offers. Next Generation in Schools is a 3-week football program, delivered by accredited North Melbourne Football Club Community Coaches, and is aimed at Grade 3 to 6 students. These clinics focus on fundamental AFL skills and game-sense activities which are linked to the Victorian School Curriculums. This program can be booked for 1-2 days a week for 3 weeks, depending upon your timetable, grade/s, and the number of students you have. We’re relatively flexible with scheduling and are happy to work with what best suits the school's needs. Please note: The Huddle can only deliver Next Generation in Schools to schools located in the City of Melbourne and Wyndham. Consisting of pre- and post-employment support for job seekers, as well as mentoring and networking opportunities, Game Changers identifies and nurtures talent through paid Employment Experiences, both within The Huddle and through partnerships with our business and community networks. Young people are supported through their career journey via case-management which takes the form of one-on-one consultations with either the Careers Coordinator or a Career Coach, based on the participants preferred method of contact, including face-to-face appointments, video, or phone call. Participants are also brought together through various education workshops and forums, including with industry professionals to grow their skills, knowledge and networks. Game Changers is delivered through collaborative partnerships with youth led cultural groups located within our communities, to ensure Game Changers is meeting the needs of local young people, while also allowing The Huddle to play a role in building the skills, knowledge and networks of these groups contributing to collective impact. I found it really beneficial since not only did it allow me to meet new people, but also helped me form networks where I could ask for volunteering opportunities and potentially work. Through the workshops I was able to learn more about the transferable skills that I could use when applying for jobs - whether it’d be answering questions at a job interview or pitching a new business/community project idea. I’d highly recommend this program to anyone who’s looking to develop career goals or need guidance at securing a job.
