- Brunswick South West Primary Takes on Game Day at The Huddle
A hands-on STEM experience exploring teamwork, creativity, and real-world problem-solving. < Back Brunswick South West Primary Takes on Game Day at The Huddle Tam Shama 19 Nov 2025 A hands-on STEM experience exploring teamwork, creativity, and real-world problem-solving. Students from Brunswick South West Primary School had an exciting day at Game Day hosted by The Huddle, and let me tell you, it was a whirlwind of energy, creativity, and teamwork from beginning to end! The event took place in The Huddle’s cutting-edge simulation stadium, where students were challenged to think critically, collaborate effectively, and put their Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) skills to the ultimate test. One of the standout moments of the day was the engineering challenge, where teams had to build a pendulum to kick a ball through the goals. It wasn’t just about putting things together; it was all about experimenting, solving problems, and learning while having fun. The excitement grew as teams tested their designs, fine-tuned their ideas, and celebrated each little victory together. Throughout the day, students delved into deeper concepts like emotional intelligence, grit, and the growth mindset. They also took time to reflect on their own strengths and characteristics, discovering what it truly means to “win” both on the field and in life. Here’s what some of the Brunswick South West students had to say about their Game Day experience: "I liked how we did a lot of teamwork and got to use our brains a lot. " "I liked doing the different activities and working with my friends. " "We tried new things and did some cool programs with the robots and the iPads. " "We got to work as a team and make and fix things. " "Doing activities for my classmates and building a stronger class bond." Game Day isn’t just a day filled with fun, it’s a unique educational experience that aligns with the Victorian Curriculum 2.0. Students engage in learning that connects to Mathematics, Science, Design and Technologies, all while building critical thinking and personal and social skills along the way. The best part? Game Day is completely FREE for schools and is specifically designed for Grade 5 and 6 students. Game Day offers a powerful learning experience where students develop teamwork, creativity, and resilience in a real world environment. The day and lessons were structured really well by the staff and team. They know how to engage and meet the needs of all students. - Georgia (classroom teacher) Want your students to experience the magic of Game Day in 2026? Click to book your Game day experience HERE . Nasteha Mohamud is a name well-recognised in the community across Melbourne and Wyndham from her amazing work in her time at The Huddle as the Program Manager – Social Cohesion and now in her role as Neighbourhood Partner at the City of Melbourne. “I have been grateful and fortunate to be able to work with diverse communities every day. The past two years have been tough but it has been amazing to see the resilience of our communities as we navigated the complexities of the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Mohamud. Mohamud has recently been rewarded for her efforts by being inducted into the Victorian Multicultural Honour Roll. The Multicultural Honour Roll focuses on recognising unsung heroes who work at the grassroots level. Mohamud has worked tirelessly over the past few years assisting and building trust with women, children and families through some truly tough times during the COVID-19 pandemic and tower lockdowns across North Melbourne and Flemington. Throughout the past two years, Nasteha has played a critical role in getting word out and promoting the vaccine to members of the African-Australian community, organising and facilitating in-language webinars, setting up culturally safe vaccination hubs and project managing youth-led vaccine promotion campaigns. “As people navigated the complexity of the global COVID pandemic, building and maintaining trust with young people, their families and our communities has been our highest priority. Nasteha has been instrumental in supporting members of the community to feel heard and empowered to keep their loved ones safe and getting back to doing the things they love,” stated CEO of The Huddle, Cam McLeod. Please join us in celebrating and recognising the efforts of her work, which have made exceptional and lasting contributions to multiculturalism and communities across Victoria. Previous Next
- The Huddle's Annual Iftar: A Time of Reflection and Unity
A Journey of Personal Growth and Community Connection < Back The Huddle's Annual Iftar: A Time of Reflection and Unity Asli Abdullahi 1 Apr 2025 A Journey of Personal Growth and Community Connection The Huddle held its annual Iftar event for 2025 on 13th March, aiming to create a space for reflection, renewal, and community connection. Held in North Melbourne, it brought together 180 members of our community including families and community leaders, government and other key partners of The Huddle, and North Melbourne Football Club players. The event featured local poet Idil Ali as the MC, guiding attendees through moments of spiritual reflection and self-renewal. Many Muslims face the challenge of mentally and spiritually preparing for Ramadan, seeking to purify their hearts and eliminate distractions before the month begins. This process of self-reflection can be overwhelming, as it requires deep commitment and awareness. The Iftar event addressed this challenge by offering a structured environment for reflection. Throughout the event, participants engaged in reflection moments led by community leaders, focusing on their journeys, progress, and renewing their commitments. The presence of diverse figures, including MP Natalie Suleyman, Ellen Green, Sheikh Isse and football players Will Phillips, Libby Birch, and Brynn Teakle, strengthened the sense of community. The impact was evident in the feedback: 90% of attendees felt more connected to their community, and 85% reported that the event helped them reflect on personal goals. Many participants shared that the Iftar wasn’t just about the meal, but about the meaningful conversations and reflections shared. One participant noted, “The Iftar event helped me reconnect with myself and others. It gave me the space I needed to reflect on my journey and embrace the renewal that Ramadan brings.” In addition to the Iftar, The Huddle’s kids' activities were also a success, with one child stating, "This is the best activity ever." The event proved to be a powerful opportunity for spiritual and personal renewal, reinforcing the community’s sense of belonging. The Huddle is already planning next year’s Iftar, aiming to create an even more inclusive and impactful experience. The team is committed to enhancing the event to foster deeper reflection, connection, and growth for a larger, more diverse group of attendees. Previous Next
