The Huddle marked a historic milestone during North Melbourne's AFLW Round 8 match against the Sydney Swans, celebrating the organisation's 200,000th participant and the remarkable community impact achieved over more than 15 years.
Held in front of a packed AFLW crowd at Arden Street, the celebration brought together former participants, community leaders, partner organisations, government representatives, philanthropic supporters, corporate partners and key stakeholders who have helped shape The Huddle's journey.

The event highlighted the collective effort behind the milestone, recognising the thousands of young people, families, volunteers, staff and supporters who have engaged with The Huddle's programs since its inception. Through sport-themed programs focused on education, employment, health and social inclusion, The Huddle has created opportunities for people from diverse backgrounds to learn, grow and belong.
Guests heard inspiring reflections from North Melbourne Football Club President Dr Sonja Hood AM and CEO Cameron McLeod, who spoke about the importance of community impact and The Huddle's role in using sport as a vehicle for positive social change. Their remarks acknowledged the many partnerships and community collaborations that have made the 200,000-participant milestone possible.

The celebration also featured powerful stories from former participants whose lives have been shaped by their involvement with The Huddle. Their experiences brought the milestone to life, demonstrating the lasting impact The Huddle’s programs can have on individuals, families and communities.
The event was expertly hosted by Yaqub Hashi, a respected young community leader who has been engaged with The Huddle since 2019. Having developed his leadership through The Huddle's programs, Yaqub's involvement reflected the opportunities The Huddle creates for young people. His connection to the milestone underscored the importance of empowering participants to become leaders within their own communities.

As North Melbourne took on Sydney, the milestone served as a powerful reminder that The Huddle's success is built on people and partnerships. What began as an ambitious vision to strengthen communities through sport has grown into one of Australia's leading community impact teams in the AFL, reaching 200,000 participants across a wide range of programs and initiatives.
From one participant to 200,000, The Huddle's story continues to be one of connection, inclusion and opportunity, demonstrating the powerful role sport can play in building stronger communities.
