Getting the most out of Game Day sometimes means going the extra mile - and for the students of Grahamvale Primary School, that was quite literally true.
Getting the most out of Game Day sometimes means going the extra mile - and for the students of Grahamvale Primary School, that was quite literally true.
The team made the journey all the way from Shepparton, boarding a V/Line train at 6am to make it to Game Day on time. That kind of commitment says a lot before the day has even begun. And this isn't their first time - Grahamvale made the same trip last year, and clearly decided it was worth the early start all over again. With another class already booked in for next week, it's shaping up to be a bit of a tradition.
And it was worth every early alarm. Students threw themselves into the day with enthusiasm, working alongside peers from other schools, getting their hands on new materials and tools, and taking on challenges they hadn't tried before.
'I loved how we worked together and we did different challenges,'Â said one student. Another reflected on what made the experience stick, 'I liked how I got to work with other people that I wouldn't normally work with.'Â
That moment of connection, with someone new, in an unfamiliar environment, is exactly what Game Day is designed to create.
The stadium made an impression, and so did the activities. 'I liked the Lego,' said one student. 'I liked how we used different materials and different tools,' said another. And for more than a few students, the chance to catch a glimpse of North Melbourne football players was a genuine highlight.
'I like how you get a chance to see some North Melbourne football players,' one student said.
Coach Taylor was also a standout, bringing the energy and encouragement that made students feel at home from the moment they arrived.
Grahamvale, thank you for making the trip, twice over! We can't wait to see you again next week.
